The bracelet of this test was provided to us by Oppo.

Oppo Band Styledesign

At first glance, the Oppo Band is not more classic. It must be said that this is not strictly speaking a connected bracelet, but rather an activity sensor. The distinction is thin, but it holds in the fact that the sensor can be removed to be used in different bracelets, the sport model or the style model. This is actually the same principle that what Fitbit was proposed for example with his Fitbit Flex sensor in 2013.

The two bracelets offered with the Oppo Band Style - the classic version only integrates the Sport Bracelet - are at least different. The Sport bracelet indeed offers a relatively classic design, all in polyurethane and a width of 15 mm.The style bracelet is significantly finer, at 14 mm, with not a location to house the sensor within the bracelet, but a stainless steel loop that will surround the sensor. This results in a much more airy design and above all much finer. In my case, I used the sports bracelet because of my rather fine male wrists. It must be said that the style model made the bracelet too fine on my wrist.Note also that the Oppo Band is waterproof up to 5 ATM.In other words, it will be possible to wear it in the water, but at shallow, as in a bathtub for example. No question of doing scuba diving with.

No trace of button on this Oppo Band, all the interactions are made thanks to the sensor touch screen, as we will see later.

A good OLED screen

In addition to the bracelet itself, the sensor is distinguished especially by its apparent screen on the facade. It is actually a 1.1 inch diagonal OLED screen displaying 126 x 294 pixels. The result is a resolution of 291 pixels per inch.It is a rather low density for a smartphone, but which remains correct enough for a connected bracelet.Unless you stick your eyes on the screen, you should not be able to detect the difference between two pixels.

We will obviously find a color screen here - it is far away when the manufacturers were limited to monochrome sensors. And who says Oled also says excellent contrast, so much so that it is impossible, even in the dark, to distinguish pixels displaying black. In broad daylight, no problem of readability of the screen either ... provided you push it to the maximum manually.By default, the brightness of the screen is indeed set over 40 % and the Oppo Band being devoid of an ambient light sensor, you will have to go into the menus to enhance it 100 % ... without forgetting to reduce the brightness ofthe display for the night under penalty of dazzling you.

Regarding the night, fortunately, Oppo offers in its Heytap application - we will come back to it - a "night" mode which can be configured according to the hours.During this period, the brightness of the screen will automatically decrease. In addition, the "lift to activate" mode which allows you to turn on the screen if you pivot the wrist, can also be programmed to be activated only during the day.A good thing if you don't want to have a screen on a few centimeters from the eyes as soon as you go back while sleeping. On the other hand, the Oppo Band does not offer an Always on and will not display anything if you do not consult it.A choice that we regret on most connected watches given the size of the boxes, but which is not a problem for a connected bracelet.

Finally, concerning the dials, Oppo preinstalled five on his Oppo Band.A rather chick choice, but the Heytap application also allows to install more with 46 available for download - and all free. What not get tired.

Oppo Band Style Use and Application

The Oppo Band bracelet has an Apollo 3 chip - whose technical characteristics are unknown - and 16 MB of storage.Connected in Bluetooth 5.0 and compatible with smartphones from Android 6 or iOS 12, it mainly embeds a bone rather simple to understand. From the reception dial, just slide vertically, up or down, to go from one application to another.By default, we will thus have daily activity, sports, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SPO2), sleep, breathing, weather, tools, settings and messages.

In addition to this vertical scrolling of applications, the interface allows you to sweep horizontally on the home screen, precisely to change dials among those installed on the bracelet. Finally, a simple support on the dial will make it possible to display some summary information such as the number of steps traveled or calories spent, but also the remaining date or autonomy.Once in the applications, there too the gestures are rather intuitive since it will be enough for a sweep to the right to go back.

Overall, if the navigation interface is rather well designed, we can regret a lack of reactivity of the display which can put half a second before saving the gesture made.

Rather limited functions

As we have seen, the Oppo Band has no button, all the interactions are made thanks to the touch screen. To turn it on, by default, you can touch the screen to turn it on, but an option is available in the Heytap app to automatically turn the screen when you swivel the wrist.

Heytap Health

As we have seen, the applications offered are essentially linked to monitoring health or activity.Note, however, the presence of a weather application which will indicate the time of the day and the next day.Other applications outside health are stored in the "tool" part. This is where we will find control of the music, a stopwatch, a timer, the alarm clock, the camera control, and the option "look for a laptop".In short, nothing but very classic.Note, however, that for the control of the smartphone camera, you will necessarily have to log into the Oppo Band in the Bluetooth settings of your phone. For music control, Oppo also allows you to automatically display the music player in the foreground as soon as your phone uses a media player.Practical not to have to search in the bracelet settings.

As always, for messages and notifications, it is possible for the user to configure which applications can send a vibration to the wrist.Nevertheless, do not intend to interact with the messages received, you can only consult them ... and again.Unfortunately, the bracelet does not manage to read the emojis and will display instead of simple squares. You will therefore need to consult the phone screen to discover the finesse of your interlocutor's emotions.

Notification problems

Still regarding notifications, the Oppo Band will also vibrate when you receive a call ... even once you answered. In my case, after having won a call from a colleague, my bracelet continued to vibrate madly, making communication particularly painful. It was only after 15 seconds that the sensor stopped his little dance. And even there, the screen no longer displayed anything, even after touched it, even if the heart rate sensor continued to take my pulse.I had to take the sensor out of the bracelet to place it for a moment in its recharge base so that everything comes back in order.Fortunately, this bad experience came to me only once. These are small frustrating bugs, but which we still wonder how they can arrive in 2021.Especially since I tested the bracelet using an Oppo smartphone myself. Also a shame that certain notifications are sent late to the bracelet, well after having received them on my computer, even if it can come from the smartphone.

Regarding the companion application on smartphone, Heytap, it will allow you to manage a number of bracelet functions. In addition to updates, this is where you can install more dials, that you can schedule the night mode or the option to turn on the screen by turning the wrist, monitoring the various health data, alarms orApplications authorized to send notifications to the wrist.

Oppo Band Stylesuivi of activity

On the health follow -up side, the Oppo Band is capable of measuring movements thanks to a 3 -axis acceleration sensor. It also benefits from a cardiac frequency frequency sensor as well as an optical SPO2 sensor. We thus find the most classic measures of most connected watches and bracelets, namely the measurement of the number of steps - and therefore of the distance traveled or the calories spent - as well as the monitoring of the heart rate as well as the saturation inOxygen in the blood (SPO2).

The Oppo Band // source heart rate sensor: Frandroid

For measurements of heart rate and SPO2, Oppo leaves several options to the user.It is thus possible to automatically measure the heart rate permanently, but also to carry out this measure only both or every six minutes. The same goes for the measurement of the SPO2.This can be done manually during the day, or automatically during sleep, in real time or at intervals.Unfortunately, it is therefore impossible to perform spo2 measurements automatically during the day, but this is the lot of watches and connected bracelets.

A bracelet devoid of GPS

Regarding the supported sports training, the Oppo Band is able to follow 13 physical training sessions ranging from "jogging for fat" to yoga via the outdoor sporting walking, room cycling, swimming in aswimming pool or ... cricket and badminton. We understand that OPPO seeks to sell its bracelet in India - where sports are particularly popular - but we regret that more common sports in Europe, such as football, basketball or tennis, are not taken care of.

When you launch an outdoor activity - such as cycling, walking or running - the bracelet will then recover the GPS signal from your smartphone. What to allow you to find the precise layout of your APROVERAIORI training.Obviously, the Oppo Band is not itself endowed with a GPS chip, here is the accuracy of your smartphone that will be put to the test.Fortunately, phones generally offer much more precise GPS fleas - and quick to be located - than connected watches and bracelets.Reverse of the medal, it will be useless to leave without your smartphone since you will then lose geolocation.

In addition to geolocation, training on the Oppo Band also helps measure the number of steps, the heart rate, the calories spent or the distance traveled. These data can then be found within the Heytap application, or in the Bracelet activity log.

The Oppo bracelet also offers sleep monitoring and breathing exercises to help you relax. In short, nothing but very classic pour un bracelet connecté.

Oppo band styleautonomy

The Oppo bracelet has a 100 mAh battery.According to the manufacturers, it would allow it to hold up to 12 days of autonomy.

In my case, however, I used the Oppo Band by activating many options - sometimes deactivated by default. This is the case of continuous measurement of heart rate and monitoring of oxygen saturation in real time at night. In addition, I confused the bracelet so that it turns on automatically when I turn the wrist during the day, but by passing it in night mode during my hours of sleep.

With these settings, I was able to use the Oppo Band for three and a half days before it falls short of battery. We are far from the 12 days put forward by Oppo, but it must be said that the use of the bracelet was rather intensive.Still, we could have hoped to approach at least the week of autonomy, especially since the Oppo Band does not offer any Always screen mode.

Oppo band recharge // Source: Frandroid

For recharging, Oppo provides a small base on which to fix the sensor, connected itself to a USB-A socket, but without an adapter.Placed in the 0 % battery base, the Oppo Band was able to recover all of its energy in 1h28.It is a rather disappointing result, especially given the low battery capacity.Note also that the Oppo Band is not compatible with the wireless load.

Oppo Band StylePrix and Availability

The Oppo Band bracelet is offered in two colors: a version with black bracelet or a version with beige style bracelet. Both versions are also provided with a black sports bracelet. The bracelet is already commercially available at a price of 60 euros.
