During these 2021, the Samsung start-up incubator from Samsung highlighted the Ezcal app which on paper could allow to calibrate its TV using the photo sensor of an iPhone or aSamsung smartphone.

On paper, the project of the start-up Ezcal of the Creative-Lab of Samsung is more than promising.The young shoot simply promises the perfect calibration of the image of a TV using a smartphone application.This application would only work on Samsung Galaxy smartphones and iPhone.Indeed, calibration requires a certain requirement as to the photo sensor and the quality of the latter varies very little on the Apple and Samsung smartphones.The application would offer three calibration modes.Rapid calibration would be carried out in a few seconds with the key an accuracy of about 70 % by playing on the white balance on only two points.The second - longer - would ensure 90 % precision with a white balance on 20 points and a delta e less than 1 (perfectly faithful colors).Finally, the third calibration mode would take about 15 minutes to perfectly calibrate the TV in SDR and HDR taking into account the gamma, chrominance and a delta e less than 0.5.The Ezcal application could also manage several profiles for the day and night for example.

Obviously, this application should be reserved for Samsung TVs since it must communicate directly with the TV to modify the settings directly.For the moment, this application is only a project and Samsung has not communicated on a possible exit from the application or on the compatibility of its future televisions with it.The fact remains that on paper, this application is a small revolution in the field of televisions since it would allow anyone without knowledge, and especially without equipment, to have a perfectly calibrated TV.Let's just hope that this project really will see the day and do not remain in the state of concept.
