According to a new report, Apple will put more emphasis on the cameras of the iPhone 13 models. Camera features such as portrait mode and ProRes for videos as well as a new filtering system would be planned for the new iPhones.

It will probably be another month before Apple finally publicly unveils the iPhone 13 series. camera features. These are primarily intended to enhance video recordings.

Portrait mode will likely also be available in videos in the future

As Bloomberg reports, iPhone 13 owners will be able to use portrait mode, which we already know from photos, too for videos. In portrait mode, the software simulates a larger aperture and shallower depth of field and thus creates bokeh effects on self-portraits.

What works quite well with still images is quite difficult with moving images, since the targeted people and the objects in the background often move in the videos. The bokeh effect must therefore be constantly readjusted.

iPhone 13: New features of camera planned for videos

Apple is not the first manufacturer to offer a portrait effect for videos. Huawei, Samsung, and OnePlus have also experimented with this feature a bit already and got some useful results, as Phonearena reports. The quality of Apple's bokeh effects in videos remains to be seen.

ProRes: A higher quality movie format

In addition, the Bloomberg report states that Apple wants to offer iPhone 13 users a new video format called ProRes. It is designed to give users more control over video post-production.

The film format is normally used by professional cutters in the film industry and in fact the format is not intended for the mass market due to the very large video files. According to Bloomberg, the next iPhones will support HD and 4K resolution video recording in ProRes format.

New photo filters with AI support

And finally, the new iPhone 13 models should also offer options with which users can adjust the colors and reflections of their images . For example, there should be an option to add deeper shadows and higher contrast to photos for more dramatic looks.

Although this feature initially looks like common photo filters, it should be very different from them. Because the image processing functions, which do not yet have a specific name, should be able to be applied precisely to individual objects or people using artificial intelligence. With an ordinary filter, the respective effects are usually applied to the whole image.
