The Virtual RAM is one of the major trends inaugurated on the mobile market since the beginning of the year. Offered by a growing number of manufacturers, it invites itself into the world of Samsung. The option has just been spotted by the specialist in the Korean world, SamMobile, on a very recent device: the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The folding smartphone, which we tested recently, has indeed just received a software update bringing it a function called “RAM Plus”.

Samsung Brings Virtual RAM (RAM More ) to its Galaxy Z Fold 3

This option, already seen on the Galaxy A52s, also tested by us a few weeks ago, allows smartphones to tap into their storage space to extend their amount of RAM using software. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 does not lack it, since it includes 12 GB of RAM from the outset. However, its latest update allows it to benefit from an additional 4 GB (virtual). After updating, the option is automatically activated (see screenshot below). We will have to check on our side if this surplus of RAM does indeed translate into better performance.

Increasingly real virtual RAM

The arrival of this update on the flagship of the Samsung catalog, as well as on one of its most interesting mid-range models, suggests a more general deployment on the S and A models. In the meantime, it is clear that this virtual RAM system is increasingly becoming one of the selling points of smartphone brands. Oppo offers it on its latest smartphones including the Reno 6 and 6 Pro, Xiaomi on its devices equipped with MIUI 12.5 in China, or even Vivo on its X60. An option that we should therefore see become more democratic in the coming months on more devices.
