Counterpoint's latest study of smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2021 highlights the status of Samsung, which remains the leader in this market. Xiaomi's rise is also confirmed in Europe.

The last few years have seen the arrival on the Old Continent of many brands hitherto reserved for the Asian markets. Oppo has been present there for three years, Realme for two and Vivo has just celebrated its first candle there. Something to shake up the usual top of smartphone sellers occupied by Samsung and Apple, but also by a booming Xiaomi.

The Counterpoint study devoted to smartphone sales in Europe in the third quarter of 2021 confirms the rise of brands recently landed on our lands. Realme and Vivo exceed one percent of sales there and Oppo again ranks number 4 there, now exceeding 10% of products sold in Europe. The brand remains far behind Apple (22.1%), whose quarter only welcomed new products at the very end of the period studied. Cupertino, which also favors the production of its smartphones to that of iPad in a context of shortage of components, should therefore see its figures climb in the last quarter of 2021.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: the folding clamshell smartphone is getting better

After a first perfectible test, Samsung is offering a new edition of its folding clamshell smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 3. A version...

The first step of the podium is still occupied by Samsung, which saw its market share drop from 35.8% in the third quarter of 2020 to 30.4%. The South Korean has not launched its traditional Galaxy Note range, however, favoring its folding models, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3, the first and less expensive of the duo, according to Counterpoint, won the most votes. Xiaomi, which multiplied product references throughout the quarter and launched its 11T in September (see our test of the 11T Pro), confirms its second place, overtaking Apple by a short head. While Samsung will not be able to count on the release of a Galaxy S21 FE to revive its end of the year, the holiday season is nevertheless on track to see this top three upset by sales of iPhone 13, which could appear among the favorites at the foot of the fir trees.
