To create and share a photo slideshow in Apple's Photos app, just select the shots from your iPhone or iPad, add special themes with fonts and background music, then share the final product with other people.

The Photos app offers two different types of slideshows. Regular slideshows allow you to change the theme, music, and duration for a number of selections. With a memory movie, you can change the overall theme by adjusting the font, music, and duration. Here's how to create, customize, and share a photo slideshow from your iPhone or iPad.

See the pictures

Open the Photos app on your iOS or iPadOS device and tap the Library button. (On iPad, tap the Sidebar button on the left to see all of the app's controls and locations). From the menu header, the app gives you the option to view photos by year, month, day, or all at once.

Select All Photos to view all of your photos as thumbnails on a single page. Choose Days to see different sized thumbnails for each day. When you select Month If you tap on a specific month, you can see all images from that month. If you tap Years, thumbnails are displayed by year and can be broken down by year, month, and then day. You can create a memory video from Day view or Month view.

Create a slideshow per day or per month

To create a slideshow based on a specific day, select Days, then browse through your photos and find a specific date. If you prefer to choose a month, select the Month button and then select the month you want. Tap the ellipsis icon in the top right of the screen and select Play Movie in Memory to generate and play your slideshow.

If you try to create a slideshow but you don't see the "Play Memory Movie" command, the date/month does not contain enough photos to generate a slideshow. In this case, you will have to find another period with more photos.

Create a slideshow from memories

The Photos app creates memories from photos related to a specific date, event, or occasion. It generates a slideshow based on one of those memories. Tap the For You button and then select a thumbnail of a memory you like. Tap the Play in the lower right corner of the image to watch the slideshow.

You can generate slideshows from other categories. On an iPhone, select Albums or People & Places. If you're on an iPad, make sure the sidebar is visible, then tap People or Places. Select the right album, place or person, then press the control button. Read button.

You can also create slideshows from videos, selfies and panoramas. Choose one of these categories under Media Types, tap the ellipsis icon in the top right, then select the Slideshow option to play it.

Choose your own photos

If you want to choose your own photos for a slideshow, the easiest way is to put them in an album first. Tap the Albums or All Albums button, tap the plus (+) at the top of the page, then choose New Album.

Type a name for your album and press Save. You can then browse through your photos and touch each image you want to add to this album. Tap Done when done.

Your new album appears in the My Albums section of the Photos app. All you have to do is create the slideshow. Select the album to open it, tap the ellipsis icon, then tap the Slideshow button to start your slideshow.

Edit a slideshow

Need to edit your slideshow? When the slideshow is paused, tap the Options button in the lower right corner. Here you can tap Theme to change slideshow theme or choose Music to change background music.

You can change the duration of the slideshow by moving the bar slider to the left to make it longer and slower or to the right to make it shorter and faster. You can also ask the app to repeat the slideshow after it's finished.

Edit a memory movie

You can edit a Memory Movie by opening your album, tapping the ellipsis icon, and choosing Play Memory Movie. Pause the video, then tap the music icon on the left.

Tap the music note icon on the right to browse other possible songs from Apple Music. Be aware, however, that any copyrighted song cannot be used if you ultimately want to share the slideshow via social media. Touch the icon with the three circles on the right to display the filters to apply to the video.

You can further edit the video by touching the ellipsis icon in the upper right corner. In the menu, tap the Manage Photos button to remove all photos from the video. Choose the Edit Title option to change the name of the movie or save it Take Key Photo to replace the intro photo of the video with the currently displayed photo.

Share a slideshow

To share your masterpiece, tap the Share button in the corner. Use the Share screen to choose a destination, such as Messages, Mail, Facebook, OneDrive, YouTube, etc. The app then exports your movie to the service.

With a service like Facebook, the app previews your slideshow and lets you add text, tag people, or add a location. When you're done, tap Share to share the slideshow.
