Most of us probably won't chat with more than 30 people on a FaceTime call, but with even half a dozen people, you're probably wondering how to keep the conversation going.

When you call multiple people, FaceTime triggers a notification so everyone can join the call. If the call is made from an iMessage group chat, the active call will appear in your chat. The video call starts when the first person you invited answers, with the screen indicating that you are expecting more people.

Each participant can see the other people in their own individual thumbnail window. The image of the person currently speaking is highlighted and appears at the top of the screen, while other participants appear below.

How to do group FaceTime?

Group chat also scales each person's image based on how active they are in the conversation, the duration of the conversation, the volume of speech, and the person's movements. Anyone not actively speaking appears at the bottom of the screen until they speak. You can also touch a person's image to enlarge it.

When the call ends, each person presses the + button to disconnect.
