In some cases, you can fix pixel errors on smartphones, tablets, and monitors. Here you can find out where a pixel error test is and what tools you can use to try and fix dead pixels. We also give advice if the dead pixel problem cannot be solved.

Why are there dead pixels?

A dead pixel is an image point that does not glow or glows white. While the other pixels light up in the desired color, it doesn't work with dead pixels. Typically, the transistors that were supposed to light up the pixel no longer work. The cause is usually a manufacturing defect and physical damage can later trigger dead pixels. In addition to dead pixels, there are also hanging pixels.

Stuck or dead pixels can sometimes be fixed or working properly on their own after a while.

Pixel error test: here's how to recognize dead pixels

If you want to check a new display for dead pixels, there is a suitable tool. These are also used to identify dead pixels – so you can tell which pixel is specifically affected. Conveniently, the appropriate free tests are websites. Just watch them in fullscreen mode (F11) and scan for dead pixels.

tip: Sometimes it's easy to mistake a spot for a dead pixel. Thoroughly clean your screen before the test.

Repairing pixel errors

You may not be able to repair defective pixels. But at least one attempt does not harm the smartphone, tablet or computer and is possible with free websites, YouTube videos and apps.

JScreenFix (website)

1. Go to the JScreenFix.com website.
2. Click or tap "Launch JScreenFix" at the bottom.
3. Drag the window with white noise to the area where the damaged pixel is.
4. Leave the window in place for ten minutes.

PixelHealer (Windows)

1. Install the PixelHealer program from the provider's website.
2. Move the window to the place with the damaged pixel.
3. It is better not to look directly at the window – especially if you have epilepsy.
4. Click the “Start Blinking” button.
5. The window flashes different colors in quick succession.
< li>Let the program run for 10 minutes.
6. Check if the pixel works again.

1. Install the app from the Play Store.
2. Go to “Fix Dead Pixels”.
3. Press “Start”.
4. Let the app run for 10 minutes.
5. Check if the pixel works again.

Screen repair (YouTube)

You can also play this YouTube video on the whole screen or on the area with the defective pixel for 10 minutes. But beware: not for epileptics!

tip: You can try one of these tools if you notice dead or stuck pixels. But don't spend too much time doing this – the problem isn't always solved that way.

Have the screen repaired
