Instant translation, one of the flagship features of Pixel 6, is now available on older Pixels. To activate this option, you just need to install an APK on your phone. We explain how to do it.
With the Pixel 6 range, Google has introduced many new software products based on its algorithms. Among the flagship features of smartphones is instant translation. This option allows you to quickly translate text and voice so that you can easily communicate with someone who speaks another language. This comes in handy if you want to chat with someone who speaks a language you don't know through a messaging app.
According to Mishaal Rahman, former editor of XDA Developers, it is now possible to use this feature on other phones in the Pixel range. To activate this option, which is supposed to be exclusive to the latest Pixels, all you need to do is install an APK of the Android System Intelligence app version reserved for Pixel 6. This system app is used to update smart features on Android, such as Live Caption or Screen Attention.
How do I enable instant translation on older Pixels?
This is obviously an unofficial port. Nevertheless, according to Mishaal Rahman, the option works without any problems on the Pixel 4a, a mid-range smartphone that does not have the computing power of a Pixel 6. According to testimonies, however, some languages are not translated correctly.
If you want to test instant translation on your old Pixel, you need to grab the Android System Intelligence APK from the APK Mirror site. Then just head into your Pixel's settings and go to the System section. Then activate instant translation and select the languages to be automatically translated.
Note that this isn't the first Pixel 6 feature to make its way to older Pixels. A few weeks ago, a similar method already enabled the magic eraser to be activated on older Pixels and on some Android smartphones. For the record, Google has committed to offering some of the Pixel 6 options on older phones in its catalog. The Mountain View giant has not specified when these features will be deployed on its old terminals. We imagine that Google wanted to maintain a period of exclusivity.
