When you arrive on the Netflix home page, you find yourself in front of a very wide choice of films and series, displayed according to the latest programs you have watched, the latest news , suggestions regarding our history, and much more...

And it's not always easy to find your way around. If some indications are quite explicit ("new episodes", "a new episode every week"...), there are others which are perhaps less intuitive. For example, there is the famous "Top 10" logo that can appear in the upper right corner of the posters of certain programs. So "Top 10" is easy to understand, but "Top 10" of what? Personalized recommendations? Programs not to watch if you don't want to spend a sleepless night at binge watcher? Of the best series in the world? In fact, the "Top 10" on Netflix corresponds to the 10 most watched programs in France during the last 24 hours. We usually find reality TV, the last action film released (like Tyler Rake or Spenser Confidential), a reference that has just arrived in the catalog (the Fast and Furious saga or the films of the Ghibli studio), or the series of the moment (La Casa de Papel).

If in the upper left corner of the poster, you see the red N of Netflix, it is that it is a Netflix original program. That's a great classic. But there is another logo that exists on some programs: a white star on a red background, in the upper right corner. He appears in few thumbnails, and especially content aimed at children. But while one might think that it is used to signal new features or particular highlights, it is a logo referring to the content of the film or series concerned: it is an interactive program!

Netflix: What does the star mean in top right of some programs?

Since 2017, Netflix has indeed been developing interactive content, in which viewers can make decisions that evolve the story the way they want. At a crossroads in the story, you have to make a choice between two possibilities, using your remote control or your smartphone, depending on the medium you are using, and validate your answer. At the beginning, these interactive programs corresponded mainly to special episodes. Like the very first, The Epic of Puss in Boots: Prisoner of a Tale, from the Adventures of Puss in Boots series.

But if many children's programs are concerned (Carmen Sandiego, Captain Superslip ...), Netflix has also developed more adult content. We first think of the special episode of Black Mirror, Bandersnatch, in which we decide on the evolution of the story. And then to Minecraft: Story Mode, or You VS. Wild, an eight-episode miniseries that offers to choose the actions of adventurer Bear Grylls, who must survive in a hostile environment.

If you type "Interactive" in the search bar on Netflix, you will see the eight programs concerned, all of which contain this famous star in the top right corner. Now you know that when this particular design appears, you will be able to participate in an adventure in which you will be the hero!
