A sober design with a touch of originality

At the first grip, the A54 seemed a little wide (almost 75 mm).A point to take into account if you are used to more compact smartphones.The front side is all that is most classic for this price range, with an integrated lens in the form of a punch in the upper left corner and a thicker black border on the lower part, which we will qualify as" chin ".

The back as the frame are made of good quality polycarbonate plastic.The whole is very robust.The reflections offer on the phone different shades of gray.A fairly successful effect that brings a touch of originality and a distinctive point on the phone.The back unfortunately tends to mark fingerprints, but nothing comparable to the Samsung Galaxy A22 that we have tested recently.As always, the overweight of the photo module makes the phone wobbly when used flat.

The imprint reader is placed on the switching button on the right side of the smartphone.It is well integrated and is very responsive to use.

The volume adjustment button is ideally positioned on the left edge.Finally, there is a 3.5 mm jack on the lower part, alongside the USB-C connector and the loudspeaker grid.

The Oppo A54 5G is equipped with a 6.5 -inch LCD slab with a Full HD+ definition of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate (non -adaptive).All in a ratio of 20: 9.The maximum brightness ensures tips above 450 CD/m².Nothing spectacular, but what to do widely facing all the light situations without difficulty.

LCD technology offers a contrast below 1500: 1.A result far from what the OLED can offer obviously, but it remains very correct.In fact, the screen pulls a little too much towards blue, a defect that it is however possible to easily correct by adjusting the color temperature in the parameters, to bring it to a little more heat.We also note the presence of a 180 Hz touch sampling to provide better responsiveness to the screen, especially in play.

Sufficient performance, but not optimal

It is a Snapdragon 480 processor that drives the Oppo A54 5G.The SOC is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM, which allows it to ensure a completely honest multitasking experience.We quickly go from one application to another without any particular difficulty.The overall reactivity of the phone is also good, even if it is sometimes necessary to wait a good second to see the keyboard appear when you press a text box.

In benchmarks, the Oppo A54 5G is not the most swift in its price category.Indeed, Realme 8 Pro and its Snapdragon 720g are doing a little better.But let's never lose sight of the fact that no figure will replace the user experience once the phone in hand.

On the gaming side, Fortnite Mobile runs with an “average” quality level at 30 images per second, but with regular and fairly disabling slowdowns that sometimes drop the number of images per second at 5.If this stabilizes over the game, the gaming experience is far from optimal.As always, Call of Duty Mobile is better optimized and less greedy.The Activision title runs without difficulty with a “high” graphic level.

During our test, the Oppo A54 was running Android 11, with the Coloros 11 graphical interface.1.We always appreciate Coloros as much for its ease of use, but especially for its very important level of personalization.From icons to the color of accentuation, typography or even notifications drawer, everything is available to make the phone to your taste.

Finally, SVOD content is available in full HD quality thanks to the highest level of security available, namely DRM Widevine L1.The security patch dates from July 2021, the latest version available for a test carried out in August.

Audio: an experience half-fig half-grape

Oppo A54 only benefits from a mono speaker.As always, the sound is relatively powerful, but the quality is not there.Its positioning on the lower edge has the disadvantage of being able to be easily obstructed when the phone is held horizontally, to watch a video for example.

We will therefore advise you to fall back on the 3.5 mm jack connector and the headphones provided in the box.The phone is also comfortable wirelessly, thanks to Bluetooth 5.1 and its compatibility with the SBC, Aptx, Aptx HD audio codecs.Aptx TWS+ and LDAC.

Network : 4G, 5G, NFC et GPS au top

The Oppo A54 5G is of course compatible with the new mobile network on the 3.5 GHz band, but also with 4G on all frequency bands available in France.The network grip is excellent and we have not encountered any particular difficulty on the Orange network during our summer trips.The GPS also works perfectly, with a precision of about three meters during our tests.

Unsurprisingly, the ultra-large-angle sensor is less well, with a dynamic beach management much less convincing, as well as loss of details and distortion in the corners.

Digital zoom

In the absence of a optical zoom, you have to be satisfied with a digital zoom.By default, the camera offers shortcuts for an X2 zoom and an X5 zoom.In both cases, we were pleasantly surprised, both by preserving the right level of details and by the return of colors, which ensures good continuity compared to the basic snapshot (Grand-Angle).

Macro

The 2 -megapixel macro sensor is useless insofar as the minimum focal distance of 4 centimeters is far too large to be able to zoom in properly and obtain a detail level higher than that which can be with the main sensor, in 48 megapixels perexample.

Night photos

Nocturnal shots are not the strong Oppo A54 5G.The Grand-Angle sensor does what it can with the light available, but the digital noise is omnipresent.Without obtaining a truly convincing rendering, the night mode brings a real plus on the scenes with a sufficient light source.

The same cannot be said of the ultra-large-angle sensor which, with or without night mode, is simply unusable in complex light conditions.

Portraits and selfies

The mode carried was convincing, with a precise cutting of the subject and a rather well managed background blur, despite some failures on the most precise areas such as the tip of the plants of the plant which kindly took the break for us.

The 16 -megapixel front sensor allows you to take quality selfies, with a good level of detail and a fairly fair restitution of colors.On the other hand, the portrait mode loses all common sense outdoors.The face is indeed overexposed and the sky literally disappears in a dazzling luminous halo.

The Oppo A54 5G is able to film in Full HD 1080p at 30 frames per second.Indeed, the on -board processor does not allow to turn in 4K.Electronic stabilization is effective enough to reduce tremors when you turn a video.

Autonomy and recharge: two weights, two measurements

The Oppo A54 5G is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery.A beautiful capacity which, combined with an economical processor and the right software optimization of Coloros, allows the smartphone to reach up to two days of autonomy, in the context of moderate use.If you use your mobile intensely, you can count on a day and a half without too much difficulty.In short, the Oppo A54 5G is a enduring smartphone that will not let you fall easily.

On the other hand, the recharge is far too slow, even for a smartphone at this price.The 10 W charging block takes approximately 2 hours 45 to completely recharge the phone.Suffice to say an eternity in 2021, while some competitors offer fast recharging at 50 W.
