Now you can turn any flat surface into a screen.
Samsung's new Freestyle mini-projector was just announced at the CES 2022 show in Las Vegas. Compact, pivoting and nomadic, it makes it easy and quick to create a projection, with automatic focusing and keystone adjustment. Versatile, you can even connect your smartphone to it to stream content on the fly.
A portable and versatile projector
The Freestyle Mini LED Projector (830g on the scale) is capable of producing a FullHD image in 1080p resolution with an auto-focus, auto-leveling and auto-calibrating display at sizes from 30 to 100 inches (254 cm diagonal ). Rated at 550 lumens, which is a common value for 'pico' type mini projectors, you'll need very dark lighting conditions to enjoy the best image quality.
On paper, the Freestyle mini-projector seems more oriented towards fun and social use than to broadcast your Blu-ray collection in optimal conditions. So if you care about technical speciations like lumens, supported streaming protocols or other advanced details, the Freestyle is clearly not for you. But for its price of 999 €, we can still expect good image quality, even in not necessarily ideal lighting conditions.
The Freestyle can be used to create mood lighting that syncs with the sound being played. It has a 5-watt 360-degree speaker and a built-in microphone system for use with Bixby and Amazon Alexa voice assistants.
The Freestyle also works with Samsung's Tizen operating system to deliver the same software experience found on the brand's smart TVs. Also, the selection of apps should be substantial, including YouTube, PrimeVideo and even Netflix which many Android TV-based all-in-one projectors don't support.
Optional accessories include a waterproof case, a USB-C power bank, and a base that allows the projector to be screwed into a standard bulb socket (E26) to be powered.
The Freestyle projector is already available for pre-order in the United States since January 4th. In Europe, the pre-order will open on January 20 before a marketing scheduled for February 17, 2022.
